Secularists don’t have to Speak up

Just as I was waiting this morning, hoping for the Secularists to speak up, I realize I’ve been preempted, stumped by Hussain Miyaan himself.

The devout follower of Islam that he is, he has agreed to take off the screening of his Chinese torture movie from theatres all over India. It has obviously pained his bleeding heart to see the collective woe (fury?) of his brethren over the blasphemous application of some exalted verse in the Quran.

He has thereby saved the multitude of Secularists from their already-evident silent embarrassment. Had the movie continued to run, we would, I’m sure, have the secularist bunch offering one apology after the other. Friends in need are friends in indeed and Hussain has plenty of them.

But of course, Hussain has refused to give reasons for his decision.

…Hussain said “I have not made the film to make money nor have I sold it to anyone. Therefore, I need not give any reason for withdrawal of the screening of the film to public.”

If you haven’t made the movie to make money or whatever other reasons, why did you screen it in the first place, and now after the mini-fatwa, why did you decide to stop its screening? Naughty old man! In the same vein, why didn’t you offer as much as a “sorry” when you hurt the sentiments of millions of Hindus in your ghastly creative portrayal of Gods and Goddesses they worship with such devotion?

PS: Alka and Shanti, here’s your much-awaited answer.

Look at my comment in the other thread likening the Prannoy Roys and Shekhar Guptas to “cowards on the street but wife-beaters at home”.

After posting it, I got to thinking that that was not my original idea, that it must have been triggered by something I read somewhere. Further probing reveals that, sure it was.

Here is what triggered my thought, and paradoxically it was the on the Hussain controversy:

Weak to the Strong, Strong to the Weak

You have units to measure things. Watts for power. Fahrenheit and Celsius for temperature. dyne/cm^2 for pressure. Newtons for force. And so on.

I have a measurement system for sizing up leftwing lunatics. This unit is called “bidwai”. A single bidwai is so power-packed that the overwhelming majority of leftwingers need a smaller scale of mesurement in order not to develop complexes. (In fact, a single bidwai is often called Fulla-bidwai.) To give a not so apt analogy: would you step in a jewellery shop that sold gold by the kilogram?

Hence: millibidwais. “45.75 millibidwais”, “127 millibidwais”, etc. N. Ram for example measures at 329 millibidwais. Prem Shankar Jha of Outlook started at 122 millibidwais, but he has been gaining bidwai-weight of late, and is currently weighing in at 323 millibidwais, only a notch below N.Ram. Arundhati Roy is a class apart, she is almost 970 millibidwais — which is as good as a Fulla-bidwai! Dilip D’Souza, who used to publish in Rediff, peaked at 677.45 millibidwais once, his personal record that unfortunately he has not been able to attain again. Age is catching up with Kuldip Nayar: better times have seen him posting a decent 155 millibidwais.

If you know people who have impressive vital stats — in the bidwai dimension — please do let me know.

Raghu, Others are Sitaram Yechuri, Harkishen Singh Surjeet, Achutanandan, Anitha Pratap…But none of them are Fulla-Bidwais.

    Darpan,

I’ve read Arun Shourie’s “Weak to the Strong…” and it’s very apt.

    Raghu Reddy,

But of course, no one except Arundhati Roy can come close to Bidwai. But she’s in a different league.

    Alka,

Like Darpan says, the secularists will not speak up. They have been saved by Hussain :-)

I strongly protest the rating given to the verbal terrorist.
In the first place it is too low. If anyone exceeds 1 bidwai, it is she. I propose that 1 Kilo Bidwai equal 1 Roy.

Secondly of course, the full range of her lunacy cannot be captured in one dimension. It will have to be a vector in n-dimensional space.

LOL Ravi! (laughing uncontrollably). What if I say that her lunacy is ultra-dimensional?

It’s simple for the secularist: like after the election defeating Kerry, God makes me angry for Peace, and what’s more irrationally. Irrationalism belongs to MAN for hidden peices to the puzzle from where “the wind blows”.
God decended the whole connected Rationale and I believe it is objective, many ways I believe with a relative essence to the nature of the God given world. It angers that we be less opinionated, at the same time that we sense religions were some way meant to be at ODDS.
Hey, ODD is good: EVEN is bad.
