Rape &c…

Jivha and Ravikiran are ripping each other apart… all right, lest the words in bold indicate a precusor to an ad hominem argument, let me haste to clarify thus: are ripping each other’s arguments apart on the subject of rape.
Very interesting.
What’s even more interesting is to read the comments that range from calling the Cartel the Fartel to emotionally-charged bits that take away the focus of the argument.

Sampada’s comment on Jivha’s blog set me recalling Crichton’s bestseller, Disclosure.

First of all, imagine the scenario if a man is raped by a man, or a woman forces herself upon a man, has anyone imagined the trouble that the man has to go through? I agree, the number is far less, but it has been done.

All right, so here it is, the question: what recourse does the man under law have if he is the victim of rape? How will his past sexual history be used in court? As a husband, if he is “not in the mood” or says, “darling, I have a headache,” and the wife still forces herself upon him and he complies anyway, how is it to be interpreted?

How does the “women as dickheads” scenario come into play here? Isn’t the man’s dignity/self worth violated here?

Or, and more importantly, can he file for rape in the first case?

If we talk of equality, how does it apply here?

I’ve read and heard arguments that rape is a tool that a man employs to assert his power in the most demeaning/henious way. In Disclosure, it is the man who is sued for sexual harassment for the simple reason that he didn’t respond to his aggressor’s (agressress?) advances and he faces hell. This book, while most part is fictional, is nevertheless based on a true life story.

So go ahead and call me the choicest of names, but do enlighten me on this subject.
