This may not be the first case of suicide on-campus nor will it be the last. But going by the cause(s), it needs at the least, a sympathetic hearing, and thorough investigation. From what I can make of it, Dr. Rachit seems to have undergone tremendous humiliation from his superiors, and this is what caused him to end his life.
Whatever that be, is it unfair to expect humane treatment more so in a profession that involves alleviating the suffering human beings? Among other things, isn’t a doctor at the minimum expected to have the quality of compassion? Of course, the standard argument does surface: doctors are humans too, and they have the same weaknesses, jealousies, etc as other humans. Can you use this argument as an excuse to continue to perpetuate humiliation on a person who you know is not in a position to retaliate and/or stand up for himself?
