Bravo Om Puri

Trust our assortment of Leftists, pseudo leaders, littérateurs, self-proclaimed intellectuals, and the whole moronic brigade to scale greater heights on the Ladder of Insanity. How does the act of Om Puri receiving the (prestigious?) Order of British Empire (OBE) award translate into serving colonial interests? And who are these eminences?

  • Satish Kalsekar (never heard of him or his party/organization, RAHA)
  • A coterie of AITUC (a Leftist body)
  • Mahesh Bhatt (my favourite hate-object)

In a press statement issued here, they stated Om Puri should not accept an award from a country that has been party to the brutalities in Iraq. As usual, Brainless Bhatt indulges in some logic-defying eloquence.

We need their money, not their praise. Fame and glamour generate money and if the honour translates into money, I have no problem with it. For me, if an Indian rickshawala appreciates his performance, it would be of far more importance than the elite of the UK, who have woken up to his talent. I believe the British film industry has been in an intensive care unit for a while now. They depend heavily on American resources to make ends meet. They are almost non-existent, while our industry is far more vibrant and diverse. One does not have to give them more important than what is required…

However, Om Puri has issued a fitting reply to these nitwits:

Firstly, I didn?t expect the award and wasn?t even aware that someone from overseas is honoured with an OBE. Besides I am not a political figure, just an artist… Sending the British Army to Iraq was Mr Tony Blair?s decision. I have been awarded by the royal family of England and the award was not the government?s decision but the Queen?s… Why don?t they ask the Indian government to cut diplomatic ties with the British Council, if they are concerned about these issues? Also, the Queen, Mr Tony Blair and Prince Charles came to India after the troops were sent to Iraq. Why weren?t any objections taken to them at that time?

I forgot to say this. The Brigade of Doofuses have no qualms hailing their brethren receiving some “prestigious” award from a “reputed (sic), humanitarian” institution: remember the Lannon Foundation (?) award received by the Verbal Terrorist, aka Arundhati Roy? It’s another matter that the Lannon Foundation hails from the same country that invaded Mesopotamia Iraq.
