I had blogged earlier about the Dynasty’s bacchca Rahul Gandhi taking on Mulayam Singh Yadav. I guess the Congress eminences have indulged in careful planning ever since. The Congress is now contemplating a Quit Mulayam Week from Aug 4. The message is clear to Mulayam: step down, and make way for us.
Oh, I forgot to add the reasons for contemplating this lofty movement:
The Uttar Pradesh Congress would be holding rallies throughout the state for a week against the ?anti-farmer? policies of the Mulayam Singh government. The other issues on which the party is going to corner the government is law and order situation, deteriorating power position, atrocities on Congress men, crime against women and frequent transfer of officials.
Of course, all of these are issues worthy enough to fight against. I’m all for it. However, there happens to be another prominent Yadav in the garb of the Union Railway Minister, who also had donned the mantle of Chief Minister, and who solely is responsible for the state of affairs in Bihar today. And I forgot to add: his fair name still carries a blemish because he was framed in the fodder scam. Why doesn’t the Congress start a Quit Rabri Devi movement?
But the most (un)pleasant surprise comes from the CPI:
The CPI too is up in arms against the government… AB Bardhan who was here recently observed that the state government should not take any thing for granted. The CPI alleged that in many cases ruling Samajwadi Party was patronising mafia and the law and order situation was fast deteriorating.
Isn’t this amazing? The Communists who have criminalized the election process in West Bengal–how else have they managed to retain power for more than 3 decades–speak of the SP patronizing the mafia.
It’ll be really interesting to watch where things are headed. My guess is Mullu’s government will fall, supported as he is from the outside, by the Congress and the Pinkos. Tags: Commentary, Indian Politics
How have the left “criminalized” the election process please?
Communist have managed to keep power for three decades not because they criminalized the election process in West Bengal which you claim and which sounds more like Venkaiya. The reason is a law they passed when they first came to power. The law stole the power from landowners to order the workers who were working on the land to leave. This law meant that the workers became defacto masters of the land. They work only how much they want at they time they want and we landowners can do nothing about it. Now as a matter of fact the land is still in our name not much can we do under the present regime but we hope for better days if power at Calcutta changes hand. It is for this very reason that the laborers, no matter how unhappy they are with the present government will whole-heartedly support the left. If you see the Election result the trend is clear. Opposition parties win 70% of the seats in urban Bengal but left wins almost 90% of the rural seats. Thus it is the rural support that keeps Left in power.
As to electoral failures, Sandeep I have spent my entire adult life in Western UP and I have seen the BJP and Ajit Singh capturing many more booths than the left does in Bengal. In Bengal individuals are politically very conscious. We will beat our heart out to get the support to vote left out and will make sure that every single person who support us gets out and vote and so does the left so the end result is a lot many people voting. In western UP, Delhi, Rajasthan (the places I have lived) a lot less people vote but the politicos make sure that voting percentage remains high you know how. There is no need to say that election in Bengal are clean because they are not but as a person who has experienced elections in different part of the India I can assure that it is not the worst. I know about your love for Lalu, just some food for thought- in last election (Lok Sabha) even he was voted out so goonism can ensure only 5-7% of seats but goonism will never be able to win entire election for you.
