Nice Article on the MMS (sic) Case

A big issue over a piece of tissue
Sex is like a 5-paise coin held inside a closed fist. The curiosity lasts as long as the fist is closed.

These quotes entered my mind when I heard of one of the non-issues blown out of proportion. Sex sells and all that.

Agreed that sex education should be made mandatory to students, teenagers should have healthy attitudes towards sex, it is no secret that the “kids out there” know a lot more about it than us etc. The last statement reminds me of a joke I read somewhere. It’s a conversation between a father and his teenaged son.

Father: Son, I want to talk to you about something important.
Son: Go ahead dad.
Father: hmm… well.. I want to talk to you about sex.
Son: OK dad, what do you want to know?

That about sums up the entire issue. After reading some very boring articles on the issue at random, I felt amused, to say the least. However, Kanchan Gupta’s article in Rediff broke the dullness.

Perhaps the police would also have the gumption of arresting the CEOs of all cellular phone companies in India because their mobile service facilitated the transmission of the MMS and are, therefore, going by the weird logic of the law-enforcing agencies, equally if not more guilty, as are all newspapers and television channels for publicising the ‘cam-phone’ video but for which it would not have topped the charts at Delhi’s porn den, Palika Bazar, or made the MMS a saleable item on baazee.com.

What will the morons do next? Raid all cyber cafes? peep into car windows to check whether kids are doing the thing and then arrest them? The media I think should be blamed the most. Toilet papers like the TOI have hit paydirt. Who knows what they’d do next? Offer a free download of the said video clip on Indiatimes (registration required/Indiatimes login ID required, of course)?
