JK beat me to it, but I’ll still add my two bits.
Religion is the opium of the masses is the first, second, and last Pslam of the Commies. For most of the post-independence years, they have systemmatically derided Hinduism, Hindu gods and goddesses, saints, and other eminent people. They profess a “scientific bent of mind,” and analyze society into two ever-warring classes based again on Prophet Marx’s “scientific analysis.” However, when opportunity suits them, they move in like the proverbial pack of wolves. All for the Cause, of course. All means are justified.
Thanks to the media, blatant untruths have come to be regarded as gospel truth. An instance is: it is only expected that the “fascist” party, the BJP and the “saffron brigade” will utter only unscientific stuff and link Tsunami to the wrath of Gods/saints… So if the saffron brigade says that the Tsunami was God’s way of avenging the Shankaracharya’s arrest, it provides fodder for the opposition to deride, mock, and jeer at them. Fair enough. However, what can explain the Commie’s sudden loss of reason (if they had it in the first place) to say,
The tsunami striking us in the last days of 2004 must be seen not as an ominous signal for the future, but as the culmination of a legacy of hate and destruction that we, the Indian people, unitedly and finally overcame in the political sphere in 2004.
This embarrassing faux pas is indefensible by any count. When cornered, cry foul, or as Arun Shourie says, “brand them as decadent, traitors, vultures.” And so, here goes:
Said Sitaram Yechury,… ??It is a statement against what the BJP is saying. The BJP-run government in Goa is advertising that theirs is a national calamity free state. Just because it is a BJP-ruled state. We are countering that with this sentence.??
Like I said earlier, it is only expected of the BJP to say such illogical things. But what compells the Communists to follow the same path? Only scoring brownie points? Their scientific analysis must surely have equipped them with better stuff…
More Nonsense
Said Yechury: ??We mean that contrary to what the BJP people are saying the tsunami is no ominous signal. This year has also witnessed the political defeat of the BJP.??
Can the BJP also say something like, “the Tsunami happened because the pseudo secular/anti-national forces are at the helm?”
Fire-fighting
Even the CPM?s Rajya Sabha leader, Nilotpal Basu tried to argue that the sentence has be read in a ??figurative sense.?? ??The intention is to convey to our readers that the people experienced a tsunami of hatred for five years under the NDA regime.??
Interpretation of poetry eh? Figurative sense and all where none exists. How is it then, that never once in all these five years you guys never used the word Tsunami? Because it didn’t happen then, right?
At the rate the nonsense is being churned out, I may need to create a separate category and file all Tsunami-related posts under it. Any suggestions for the category name?

By the way, the BJP government in Goa made no such statement. This is what made the communists parade their insanity for the whole world to see.
