Historically Congress has been the worst offender of misusing bills against non-Congress ruled
states.Apart from that there's a growing polarization in the nation with a very strong & vocal
left on one end and an equally strong right (which currently is going through some churning). The timing
of the bill as Sandeep mentioned thus leaves us with little doubt about it's potential misuse by the current
establishment.

The left is desperate to get back at Modi by hook or mostly by crook. And left has a very high stake in tabling of this bill.

The people of Gujarat & Modi showed their middle finger to the Leftist run English Media of the country in 2003
which obviously did not go well with them. They are still looking to get back somehow. I almost feel like it's a mind
game going out there. And Narendra Modi emerges stronger every time the left comes up with some new fabrication
on Gujarat.
The IE & TOI have made their lifetime mission to hang Modi publicly with every small news from Gujarat blown to nauseating
proportions.

I am somehow dissappointed with the lack of coherent game-plan from the right wing to counter this blantant offensive
of the left. The right wing of the nation somehow lacks the wherewithal to take the attack in enemies camp.
The UPA can be put on mat on so many issues. Bangladeshi immigrants,Chaos in power situation in Maharashtra & elsewhere,
Partisan dealings in Air-India's deals,Naxal movement, etc etc.

The right has lost it's steam & has not over come the fatigue of last elections as yet. It is imperative for the health of the nation that the Right becomes stronger before it is bull-dozed by the media-left-sonia-lalu combine to the confines of history forever.

Nitin,
>>But should we hold back good laws just because they will be abused by political parties?
Fully agree. However, I somehow sense a sinister design behind formulating this present bill. Moreover, it is not really practical in Indian politics to ensure non-partisan laws whatever the safeguards. Our political bosses are so damn ingenious that they will manage to bring in partisanship while pretending to be non-partisan. Tomorrow, if the NDA/BJP comes to power, there's no guarantee they'll not precisely use this selfsame law to settle old scores.

Sandeep,

I totally agree with you on the Congress party's propensity to abuse well-intentioned laws. But should we hold back good laws just because they will be abused by political parties? Perhaps stronger safeguards to prevent partisan application need to be put in place.
