As Expected

The Resident Idiot has exploded as I expected. How could he not, especially when our gentle Prime Minister has as it appears, forged the Indo-US ties for the better.

That the US has agreed to share its nuclear resources is in itself a spectacular achievement of Dr.Singh.

In an impressive gain for India, the Bush Administration has agreed to supply not only enriched uranium to fuel the Tarapur reactors, but also natural uranium for other reactors that are at the heart of the national nuclear energy programme.

In one stroke, the US decision under the nuclear pact signed Monday, addresses a long-standing vulnerability of India’s civilian nuclear programme—the lack of enough domestic reserves of natural uranium. [...] Those familiar with the drama of Indo-US nuclear negotiations—that oscillated between success and failure throughout the last weekend—say it was a master stroke by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to include two top scientists in his delegation.

In their morbid derision for everything that begins with “United” the US, Comrade Karat published some meditations on the eve of Dr.Singh’s visit: don’t bother reading the mishmash of anti-Americanism, anti-NDA, and anti-reforms. Now that Dr.Singh’s visit has brought in a bounty of good news, the Left’s scholarly stooges in the media–the Resident Idiot for one–have lost no time in yelling murder. I won’t bother deconstructing the Resident Idiot’s article; some highlights for your pleasure:

  • London bombings were the direct result of UK’s role in Iraq
  • India will go the UK way if it continues to get closer to the US
  • The US is “recruiting” India to counter Chinese power in Asia (Read for yourself and note how the Resident Idiot expresses concern for his beloved China at the cost of India’s security)
  • The Left’s “spirited protests” (verbatim) against the New Framework for the US-India Defence Relationship have gone unheeded
  • For this reason, the Framework needs to be scrapped

To this empty–and therefore, shrill–rhetoric, Nitin at the Acorn has superbly-reasoned responses. As he says, Bidwai belongs to the dogmatic sort(s) from the Left and holdovers from the Cold War days.

For about 50 years, India paid a heavy price by cutting itself off from the rest of the world. There are still sections in the US which view us as merely a nuisance to be contained. For a change, we’ve begun to move away from the Ostrich mindset, and have a Prime Minister who is facilitating it effectively.

It would do well for Dr.Singh to contain the Left’s nuisance value.
