Says the Iranian President.
Iran’s hardline President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad today openly called for Israel to be “wiped off the map”. “The establishment of the Zionist regime was a move by the world oppressor against the Islamic world,” he told a conference in Tehran entitled ‘The world without Zionism’.
And invokes a return of the good ol’ days when the “revolutionary” terrorist-preacher Khomeini held Iran in his sway. Personally, I prefer a world which has a strong counterbalance like Israel opposed to the “pure” brand of Islam, the Saudi or Pak variety.
Postscript:
- For an incisive, first-hand report of Iran’s condition during Khomeini’s days, you don’t need to look any further than Naipaul’s excellent Among the Believers.
- And our homegrown eminences protested vocally against India siding with the US in the recent IAEA affair. Why doesn’t it surprise me? The Indian Left has a natural affinity for Islamic–and other brands of–terrorists given their own Marshall’s track record.
