Comrades Hate Elections

The CPI’s party organ is ironically titled People’s Democracy. Their several rampage-sprees are but ostentatious expressions of their love for democracy. Like this threat:

Unable to take the Election Commission Observers to task for their “partisan approach” in weeding out fake voters in West Bengal, a miffed CPI(M) leadership has turned its ire on the Congress for its inability to rein in the State leaders who have allegedly “gone overboard to malign the Left Front in the State.”

Stopping short of holding the Congress responsible for whatever was happening in in the State “in the name of pre-poll survey by the Election Commission Observers,” CPI(M) State secretary Anil Biswas has asked the Congress leadership to take precautionary measures or face the consequence, so to say.

Party general secretary Prakash Karat said: “Congress should take lessons from the past and mend ways.” “There is a conspiracy in the air which is being hatched by many agents,” a visibly worked up Mr Biswas said on Wednesday.

Of course, the whole universe is a Capitalist Conspiracy. In this case, even if unleashing the EC on West Bengal is Congress-motivated, it makes me look at the Grand Old Party with a new respect: they’re doing something right. The EC which worked magic in Bihar is set to repeat it in West Bengal much to the Communists’ dismay. Anger is certainly rooted in fear.
