Terrorist is her Last Name

At least in the lexicon of a few like-minded folks, this blogger included. Unless you haven’t figured it out, I’m speaking about the Verbal Terrorist: see, last name is Terrorist.

We had so far groaned under the assault of her verbal barrage about freedom fighters et al. But now, she has burst her charge. Physically.

Booker Prize-winning author Arundhati Roy joined a sit-in in New Delhi on Wednesday, demanding mercy for Mohammad Afzal, who has been sentenced to death in the Parliament attack case.

The sit-in was organised by the Society for the Protection of Detainees’ and Prisoners’ Rights headed by S A R Geelani, who was aquitted in the case earlier.

Roy, who said she is participating in the protest because she is against death penalty, also added, “The whole case is full of faulty evidence and fabricated stories and to hang someone for something he may not have done is not fair.” She demanded a Parliamentary inquiry into the case.

Such exemplary display of courage is not new to her. In this, her latest stunt, she has perhaps for the first time, openly proclaimed support to a Jaish-e-Mohammed terrorist. The fact that Afzal is sentenced to death for the 2001 Parliament attack is immaterial. That he should’ve been summarily shot because he is a terrorist is reason enough.

At least that’s what sanity–and commonsense–says should be done.

But endowed as she is with superior sagacity, the Verbal Terrorist turns her venom against Afzal’s execution. You can bet she’d have written elegant prose had the Parliament been bombed. So she’s making amends now, pleading for the terrorist’s life. Remember, her last name?

Expect her to support the Taliban next.

Don’t yell at me for this horrible picture. It’s the best I could manage :(
