The Spin Begins

It’s time I switched my career and became an astrologer. Barely two days have elapsed since my prediction, and it has come true.

There was clear evidence that there could be tension on Sunday and yet the state administration reacted in a leaden manner. On January 19 evening, when people marching to a rally, organised by Congress leader C.K. Jaffer Sharief, to protest against Saddam Hussein’s execution, pulled down advertisements for a Virat Hindu rally in the Shivajinagar area, the first clashes occurred…. Bangalore’s Police Commissioner N. Achutha Rao argues that it was because the organisers of the Virat Hindu Samajothsava turned down the suggestion that the rally be cancelled in the eastern part of the city that the situation got out of hand. [..]

Exactly! Not one word of reproach about the eminently secular nature of Jaffer Sharief’s rally protesting the (deserved)
execution martyrdom of Saddam. It is somehow the responsibility of the Hindus to cancel a meeting planned several months ago, and please, please note that the instigation originated from the goons at People’s Front. The spin continues in the following fashion:

It was also the first period of communal violence in Bangalore since the BJP engineered an alliance with the JD(S) to come to power in Karnataka exactly a year ago. It is, however, not the first incidence of communal violence in the state under the present government. Last October, communal tension had peaked in BJP-dominated Mangalore district.

Note the choice of words: “the BJP engineered an alliance with the JD(S).” Amazing, isn’t it? At that time, Deve Gowda brought the heavens down with this high-pitched, ceaseless crackling that his own son had betrayed him by joining hands with the BJP.

And they are all honest men in the media, the Indian Express included.

It’s always the Hindus’ fault.

Let’s wait and watch how the spin unfolds. Meanwhile, I’m available for consultation.
