Dreadful tidings from (New York Times: Free Registration Required) Madhya Pradesh.

The police in central India came across a grisly mystery on the grounds of a hospital over the weekend, with the discovery of 396 small bones and bone fragments that they say could be the remains of newborn babies or fetuses. The bones were found in plastic bags on Saturday afternoon in Ratlam, a town in central Madhya Pradesh state…. The police chief of the area, S. K. Saxena, reached by telephone, said the authorities did not know the identities of the dead or why the remains had been left behind Mission Hospital, which is run by Christian missionaries.

Offered without comment (Dilip D’Souza style).

Notes to self:

  1. Strange that among all Indian newspapers, I found the link to this news item in only the Web edition of Indian Express. Google search points mostly to the NY Times report…
  2. Watch this.
