Blogger Amardeep Singh was featured earlier on this blog. His prose is interesting and I have only the deepest respect for his erudition in literature.
But I do certainly have issues when I read a post approving Pankaj Mishra. I’d have ignored him if he was just another blogger, the likes of I-have-a-PC-and-Internet-access-so-I-blog. But Amardeep Singh is an academician, a Professor teaching one of my favourite subjects: Literature.
Expect analyses of some of his posts shortly.
Thank you.

I don’t like these semi-educated Muslims to write about my religion. Mishra appears to have read a couple of books randomly, added a bit of Roy here and there and is trying to pass off his article as a well researched piece. I shudder at his dropping dates so easily and squirm at his equating Vivekanda to two people I don’t even know about. Who exactly told him that anti-Muslim sentiments are only a decade old phenomenon? Clearly this man needs to read up elementary history.
I find this funny that so many people continue to claim that Hindus do not know Sanskrit, they can’t even read their own religious text. Meanwhile we have millions of people singing Christian hymns in Malayali and offering the Namaaz in Bangla, Arabic, Portugese, Spanish etc. Is the bible written in Malayali? Was the Koran written in Spanish?
Mishra does not know that it was a common ancient tradition to have one spoken language and another for scholarship. We spoke Prakrit (literally - Natural). Our scholars wrote Sanskrit (literally- Synthesized). Same goes with almost any other religion, Hebrew, Farsi etc.
Mishra wants to prove that Hinduism is an inferior religion and Hindus are perhaps inferior in their dogmatic belief of something they haven’t even read about. Now, where did I hear it before?

Please edit the above comment to correct the typo in Vivekananda.
Thanks.

Barbar,

Mishra has substituted ideology for scholarship. He’s been featured on this blog several times. At best, he is intellectually dishonest. He keeps harping on Babri masjid and Gujarat, a fact which Amardeep Singh also finds irritating–imagine!

Dear Prudent Indian,
I’m doing fine, thank you.
You seem to have taken offence mightily, just turn on your sense of good humour and smile
I’m both flattered and honoured you think this highly about me.
That comment wasn’t arrogant in the least…far from it, it was meant to be a private joke between me and another reader (via an private email), which I cannot share to give you the context. Rest assured I’m not taking potshots at you or anybody.
Like I said, let your hair down and smile.
