Operation Terminate Modi: Part 2

Monday, 7. May 2007 - 4:36 PM

Has been put into action overwhelmingly, by the media. After Gujarat 2002, this operation is the second illegitimate offsping of the copulation of Secular Politics and Secular Media.

I was laughing at the Times Now (you can apply this line to most secular News channels) news anchor’s furious facial contortions when I caught the first reports of Venal Vanzara. She seemed to be in an incensed hurry, as though she’d go charging after Vanzara right after she finished her reporting assignment.

I decided not to blog about it. No use. But the devil must get its proverbial due.

The devil in this case is the media. They took it upon themselves to declare Sohrabuddin as innocent. Worryingly, their definition of innocent people, of late, always includes Islamic terrorists. That miserable premise established, they begin the usual demonising. Vanazara and the Gujarat police because much to their consternation, they can’t find a direct link to Modi.

Move over Afzal, Sohraduddin is now the new martyr. All means to effect martyrdom are fair and permitted. Take the cue of the (anti) Hindu, which dropped dung.  Till the Gujarat government shamed it into eating the selfsame dung.

It is now clear, as the Gujarat Government’s response published here points out, that the 24-page document is not the Geetha Johri report. The Hindu retracts its front-paged assertion that the Johri report speaks of “collusion of the State government” and of the role of Mr. Amit Shah, Minister of State for Home; and also that it recommends a CBI enquiry. We deeply regret these serious errors in a story that drew on documents we relied upon in good faith. We agree that we should have verified the facts, especially those relating to the provenance of “Facts of the Case,” before publishing the news stories.

Memorize that paragraph. Courageous guardian of the Fourth Estate, the (anti) Hindu gets away with a few false sorries. The apology as is evident, is a forced product, a result of getting caught with its pants down. What’s worse than the encounter is The (anti) Hindu’s naked face of forgery, the extent it is willing to go to demonize Gujarat and Modi.

Now, a tidbit on “Martyr” Sohrabuddin’s stellar credentials.

BJP Parliamentary Party spokesman Vijay Kumar Malhotra said the party will not say anything on the nature of encounter since it was pending before the Supreme Court but glorifying him as someone innocent was totally wrong. He faced several cases, including possession of 24 AK 56 rifles, hand granades and 81 magazines of AK 56 and over 5000 cartridges, which were seized from his native village of Zarania.

He faced cases in Ahmedabad, Ujjain, Kolhapur, Udaipur for violating various laws including Terrorists and Disruptive Activities (prevention) Act, Mr Malhotra claimed.

Obviously, all these cases are pure fiction. How else, would our liberal blogging eminence state with a straight face that

In Gujarat, police officers kill a man who was apparently a small-time criminal, label him a terrorist and their act an “encounter”.

Right. A “small-time criminal” with 24 AK-56s among others.

I suspect there’s some innate disorder in these liberal loudmouths and their media cohorts, which makes them blind to open acts of terrorism like in Afzal’s, or Ishrat Jehan’s cases. Or is their entire stock-in-trade based upon a single mantra: Muslims are innocent because they are Muslims irrespective of how many trains they bomb, how many innocent pilgrims they kill, and how many attacks against the state they perpetrate?

Their response to saner voices is to simply out-shout them:

That the Gujarat Police shed niceties in fighting terrorism is undeniable. It is also likely that there was some collateral damage, such as the killing of Kauser Bi. Two years ago, the British police erred in gunning down an innocent Brazilian in London. Did that lead to the demand for the interrogation and arrest of the Home Secretary and the Prime Minister? No doubt the Supreme Court will do what it considers best for national interests, but it would be prudent to see the case beyond narrow legal terms. [...]

Terrorism can’t be fought by the Queensbury rules. The index of success is effectiveness. Since the Akshardham attack in October 2002, Gujarat has not witnessed any major terrorist attack, despite the State and its Chief Minister being top of the hit lists. Zero-tolerance of terrorism, not circumscribed by electoral compulsions, has paid dividends. It is also yielding returns in Congress-ruled Andhra Pradesh where the top leadership of the CPI(Maoist) has been eliminated.

The quantum of “excesses” has to be measured against the magnitude of the challenge.

Consider an alternative scenario. Being a mere suspect, Sohrabuddin is let off. Months later, he’s hauled up for blowing a temple/trains/pilgrims/<insert your favourite public place here>. What would you rather prefer? That qualifies for quantum of excesses against the magnitude of the challenge.

Why is the media suddenly highlighting Encounters as the unmitigated evil? What explains the silence on the Killing Fields of UP, which should find mention in the media’s sudden awakening to Encounters? Like Dilip, who probes our collective consciences:

And tell me this, since you think their deaths and so many more fight crime and terrorism, you will go to sleep tonight without bolting your front door, right? Why do we — you and I — support, even applaud, such killing?

Because our positions are clear: we have clear distinctions between right and wrong.

With this case, the media might finally be unravelling itself, and we need to do all we can to hasten the process.

Did Abu Salem become an MLA yet? Heard he was running.

Despite the fact that Sohrabuddin may have been a terrrorist one cannot condone encounter killings. The way out is to strengthen our judiciary. To make getting bail more difficult. To have “anti-secular” laws like POTA. To not let “secularism” come in the way of hanging people like Afzal Guru.

As you rightly pointed out, the media has a highly “secular” approach. A Muslim being killed in Modi’s Gujarat makes bigger news than some chap bumped off by the “secular” messiah Mulayam’s police. Maharashtra too has become “secular” since the Cong-NCP combine came to power. Given this highly selective highlighting by the media, it becomes difficult not to question their motives.

WILL, some body PRAY tell me what happened to TULSI RAM PRAJAPTI? What did ‘Khaki Assassins’ do to him? If HE too was killed in this alleged ‘fake encounter’, what about him? Was he a criminal or an innocent bystander? Why this obsession with that Sohrabuddin and Bi (no way I am justifying any killing), any idea why is Tulsi missing in this entire story? SECULARISM, friend SECULARISM.

My blood is boiling at this blatantly biased coverage by the media.

Is there no way out ?

How much longer do we have to put up with these pseudo-secular bastards??

This “secular” thing has been going on for such a long time.
And there’s nothing we can do about it…..is anyone out there listening to Sandeep,Rajeev Srinivasan and others….??

A large percentage of Indians don’t have internet access…is there a more “visible” way of protesting and getting our point across?

agree, but anonymous, this line of thought is given many liberals(i know you are not one) also, as if they are the gaurdians of justice, but applying the same to say reservation ; just becuase someone else supposedly screwed the dalits in older generatons doesnt mean we should be punished now for that though reservations
i see no liberal coming up with this statement though kind of statements though

    @Sri:
“My blood is boiling at this blatantly biased coverage by the media”

    My sentiments, exactly!

CNN-IBN’s Hindi channel IBN-7 went hammer and tongs at Modi when the story initially broke out and dubbed Sohrabuddin as “Masoom”. It tried to then paint him as a Muslim victim.

When gradually the fact that Sohrabuddin was a gangster at best, and a terrorist at worst, was revealed, it tried to deflect the focus on Kauserbi being the victim!

The “secular” media has finally shed all pretence of balance!

The manner in which IBN-7 has now gone about “exposing” “Hindu God-men” in a Tehelka style sting operation is another example of its “secular” slant! The tone of its coverage is sinister as it tries to portray all spiritual leaders as some kind of scamsters! There is certainly an attempt to influence the subconscious against the religion itself.

When they “retracted”, how far in did it go?

As far as India or Hinduism is concerned, the greatest threat is not from the christists or the islamists or external powers like china. Its from Hindus themselves or sections of Hindus (for instance the secularist now shedding tears over Sohrabuddin). Unfortunately this is nothing new. It’s the same sick old story being repeated over & over again I thnk for centuries now, Indians betraying Indians.
Frankly, I am curious as to what drives these people to denigrate their own country & culture. This is something unique to India. I mean China was (or is) a communist country but at no point of time did the Chinese communists like Mao or his contemporaries knowtow to Russia (in fact they almost went to war on a border issue in the 1960s); the Vietnamese are communists but fiercely patriotic especially when it comes to telling the Chinese to get off. Its only the Indians who …. I leave that unsaid). God help us. Really!!!

    Sandeep,

Why do people like my relatives blindly read “The Hindu” and watch NDTV?

  13. Atlantean

It is very surprising that The Hindu actually accepted the fictional nature of Neena Vyas’ frontpage assertion about “the collusion of the Narendra Modi Govt” the other day. You dont usually expect honesty from the psecs. They dont usually own up to their mistakes. However, the tone of N. Ram’s apology the subsequent day made it look like a small error, a journalistic error, an editorial error, something of that sort. But even a bat can clearly see through… Neena Vyas’ article was not the result of any error or mistake or slip… it was VERY VERY DELIBERATE! Otherwise, how did Amit Shah’s name and “the collusion of the state government” appear all of a sudden in a document which did not contain the same?! Journalistic error/editorial error/poor “verification of facts”? Think!

Leave N. Ram. Where’s Neena Vyas?!

The Hindu’s editor is a great fan of Arundhati Roy. He seems to have taken inspiration from Roy’s 2002 attempt at palming off certain fabricated Gujarat incidents as real incidents. She got a bloody nose when her lies were exposed.

Incidentally, it is being said that Neena Vyas has been rechristened “Neena Gas”.

“Why do people like my relatives blindly read “The Hindu” and watch NDTV? ”

TINA- there is no alternative, as of now.

    >>Incidentally, it is being said that Neena Vyas has been rechristened “Neena Gas”.

No need to build the Iran pipeline anymore. Yeah.

  18. Atlantean

Jai, N. Ram knows how to use people to promote ideology. He had actually used Arundhati Roy very well by publishing her articles in the op ed page during Godhra, Narmada Valley Project etc. But during Nandigram, he ditched her completely. He ditched everybody infact, including his illustrious comrade Praful Bidwai. N. Ram wrote a defamatory editorial in March about the protests at Nandigram, referring to Mamata Banerjee’s “highwire theatrics” and the “ragbag of political friends.” This ragbag included, among others, Arundhati Roy, Praful Bidwai and the other usual left wing nuts.

A call to all Indians.Hindu News paper is now owned by a Christian Joshua Society of Switzerland. This paper has been repeatedly destroying Hinduism under its Communist Editor N Ram who openly lends support to China. Please form a ring to boycott this anti india paper and drive it out of India. Please pass on this message to one and all and let us form and build a strong India.Jai HInd
