Freedom of Expression

From the Slimes:
Furore over sketches depicting Prophet Mohammed in the nude found in M S University campus on Wednesday night spilled over on the streets here on Friday afternoon.
Mob belonging to the Muslim community pelted stones on the police and media persons to vent ire against the sketches. Later in the night, fresh violence broke out again at 9.30.
Interestingly, the news report is titled, Obscene sketches: City on boil. No such headlines for news items related to Goddess Durga and Jesus Christ of the Chandramohan perversity variety. The debate in that case concentrated on freedom of expression. I wonder if sketch=art.
What does the Indian blogdom say?

aptly named slimes
remember the Islamists have a special right to freedom of expression
that of violence which enshrined in the aimplb and deobandi edicts (they have no other means to express their feelings being in minority)
In the Hyderabad mecca masjid blasts there was a mini riot just after the blast and the police had to lathi charge and fire at the crowd to control it, helping destroy forensic evidence in that process.
Secularism = political correctness = appeasement of minority

The Indian blogdom concurs that the Slimes is bigoted. The sketches were in direct response to a call by an MSU senate member Deepak Shah that he would award 1 lakh to anyone who drew a nude and offensive portrayl of the Prophet. Surprisingly, The Indian Express too failed to showed any moral gumption whatsoever – after describing the event, it went on to ask why the Commissioner had not arrested Deepak Shah for offering such a reward.
There are two interesting dimensions to the issue. One, the guy who made the sketches is anonymous. Two, the sketches were falsely signed ‘Chandramohan’! Someone either hates Chandramohan and wants to get him into further trouble, or conversely, absolutely loves him and wants to prove that he is actually an equal-opportunity offender.

Bad boy…. You should not be writing about al this, least you upset the non-minority and the secularists, thus spoiling the seular fabric of this great nation [;)]

How was it known that Chandramohan did not do nude mohammed too? Afterall, he sort of did a nude Christ and nude Durga so he might as well have aimed a secular perfection with a nude Mohammed. It is being claimed that the painting was “falsely” attributed to him. How was this determined? Was an investigation done?

Police use teargas to disperse Muslim mob in Vadodara
From our ANI Correspondent
Vadodara (Gujarat), May 26: The Gujarat Police used teargas to disperse Muslim mob protesting a poster allegedly sacrilegious to Prophet Mohammad.
“They were trying to take the law into their hands and tried to hamper the peace in the city. We have managed to control them,” said P.C. Thakur, Police Commissioner.
Muslim devotees, a few carrying posters of Al Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden also shouted slogans.
On Wednesday, two journalists were beaten up, one seriously, by a group of Muslims asking them not to take pictures of the controversial poster circulating in the MS University.

Weird. This news of thrashing of journalists seems to have ended all theoretical dissertations and nuanced formulations here on this blog on the vexatious and troubled subject of Freedom of Expression.

Ot,
That’s because everyone here will concur that what happened was wrong and that it is quite impossible to trump the Muslims in bigotry.

>>How was it known that Chandramohan did not do nude mohammed too?

“That’s because everyone here will concur that what happened was wrong and that it is quite impossible to trump the Muslims in bigotry.”
But why should that act as a dampener to the fight against fascism? I suppose this should all the more motivate journalists to gird up their loins and declare a final showdown with the enemies of freedom of expression.
29. May 2007 - 1:15 PM
Ot,
It should, but we all agree that MSM is rather biased. In any case I was only trying to answer your question of why all theoretical dissertations and nuanced formulations on this blog were missing. I think that’s because there is not much to discuss/debate, all of us are agreed on this.

Oh, it’s painting intifida in India now? After the cartoon intifida? Well Muhammad was no goddamn prophet. He admitted it himself.
I’ll provide the verse if need be.
Why is India, a hindu majority nation, allowing itself to be shackled by pseudo secularism? I know Gandhi and his Edwina-chasing Nehru were the vile ones, but surely the rest of India would have eradicated such slime from your soil and be proud to be indian and hindu. No Sri Aurobindo or Vivekananda replica anywhere?
Anyways to comfort you nice hindus, islam is dying and muslims are also dying – from Depleted Uranium Poisoning. So in about 15 years times you’ll get back your land – what is today horribly known as Afghanistan!
Cheers

Same answer: Its his right to draw whatever the fuck he wants to draw. Muhammad Sita Christ whoever.
The libertarian argument does not change with the hypocrisy of the media or the pseudo secular bastards.
Deal with it. its consistent (though not reality)
