The political circus in Karnataka has come a full, brazen circle. Afraid of facing elections, Deve Gowda Inc a.k.a Janata Dal (Secular) has finally fallen at the BJP’s feet. A honourable option would’ve been to honour the commitment they had made earlier.
This shamelessness is routine but our secular intellectuals need to have their share. They were least bothered during the first JD(S)–BJP wedding. But they seem to be alarmed now.
As Karnataka governor Rameshwar Thakur mulls over whether to accept the BJP-JDS claim to form a government, noted littérateurs in Bangalore have joined hands to oppose the alliance.
A number of noted writers like Jnanpith award winner UR Ananthamurthy and award-winning playwright and actor Girish Karnad and a number of others have written a joint petition to the Governor strongly condemning the alliance.
Sigh. The usual suspects. Anantha Murthy and Girish Karnad. You don’t even need to ask why they are opposing this "unholy alliance."
