Vacuous Media Sleazeballs Moralize Against Mohan Bhagwat

MediaMy dictum that the Indian English media is a whore with none of the ethics of a whore has been proven correct again. And so the latest proof of its venal whoredom happens to be a barefaced lie, a shameless hoax, which in the pre-Internet era would’ve gone unnoticed. Perchance that it was noticed, its exposure would’ve been buried by everybody starting with the gatekeepers all the way up to the CEO of the brothel. And this piece would’ve never been written.

That the media crossed all limits was proved by Radiagate. But when you abandon shame just once, you only want to better your previous record. I suppose it’s like drug addiction but I really don’t know. You need to ask Barkha Dutt, et al. The latest entrant into this Media Hall of Shame happens to be Asian News International (ANI), whose doctored and heavily editorialized reportage of RSS Chief Mohan Bhagwat’s speech at Indore on 6 January 2013 was portrayed as the actual view of the Sarasanghachalak. In other words: lying.

Of course, predictable consequences followed. The English media spontaneously erupted in simultaneous multiple orgasms nationwide. Here’s a sample from the uber spinmeister NDTV, which spun an already-twisted report (by ANI) as follows:

‘Women meant to do household chores': another shocker from RSS chief…right-wing Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh’s (RSS) chief Mohan Bhagwat has done it again…

But what did Mohan Bhagwat actually say? Thanks to Newslaundry for the loose translation (the original Hindi transcript is here):

[Mohan Bhagwat] was commenting on the Western model of modernity. And in that context, he was articulating his view of their view. Get it? He said in the “modern” interpretation of marriage (not his), women are bound by contract to serve their husbands. He also said that husbands were bound to look after their wives. Much like women are supposed to look after household chores and keep their husbands satisfied, men are expected to provide for their wives and look after them, as per the modern version of the marriage contract. And if either the wife or husband didn’t manage to do so, the dissatisfied party breaks the contract and contracts a second or third, as per the modern version of the marriage contract. Get it?

Notice how it was reported. And how quickly it went viral in the media. Notice also how RSS spokesperson Ram Madhav’s defence of Mohan Bhagwat was carefully buried under layers of paragraphs by these news-twisters. Typical. Spit and run journalism thrives on this to survive. Moreover, since the RSS chief is himself directly involved, it’s the Golden Chance for journalists and reporters to inject more poison into the already toxic reporting.

However, what they didn’t bargain for is the avalanche of outrage that steamrolled against them on Twitter and elsewhere online. For once, these RSS-blood-baying news hounds were forced to lick their wounds. Even the normally giggly, dumb high-school girl like Old Monk Boy’s wife was forced to apologize.

That the English media vampires hate the RSS because of their Maculayite background is just a partial explanation. The truthful explanation is the fact that they are people with no integrity. You present them with mountains of evidence to the contrary, yet they chose to willfully ignore it. Their hatred of the RSS is not irrational. It is depraved. And like all hatred, it is rooted in fear.

The depravity begins with how they have historically characterized the RSS, again, taking a leaf out of Nehru’s book. The fact that the media has consistently ignored the exemplary social work that RSS has done since its inception is a measure of the media’s intentionally blinkered vision. It’s as if the RSS exists only to foment violence and make the ultra-pampered minorities shiver in their shoes. It’s as if the RSS is just waiting for tomorrow to declare India as a dreaded Hindu Rashtra complete with doomsday visions of unchecked tyranny and violent repression. But this kind of branding has indeed served the media well. The mention of RSS evokes derisive ridicule and laughter in large pockets of urban India today. And this ridicule isn’t based even on a cursory study of the RSS’ stellar contribution throughout its existence. The naked lie accepted as gospel truth, is actually handed down second hand by third-rate writers with a spurious agenda to push.

Yet, what is the actual record of the RSS?

Name a natural calamity. Floods, earthquakes, tsunamis…RSS workers reach the affected spot first and dive right in to help the victims. They care nothing for their own comfort, eating little and sleeping even less. They ask nothing in return unlike the Christian missionary vultures whose ugly soul-trading was on full display during the 2004 Tsunami that hit India. Yet what does the media report? Nothing. They simply bury the story of the work done by the RSS. What does that show? That the media is aware of the good work but chooses only to report some statements made by the RSS that are perceived to be regressive or inflammatory. If this doesn’t show a lack of integrity, what else does?

But perhaps the greatest strength of the RSS is its staggering number of voluntary workers or karyakartas. These are people who give up everything in life to serve the nation. They go where the RSS orders them to go and undertake any task, however arduous. And thousands of these karyakartas are qualified, intelligent and competent enough to earn six figure salaries had they not opted to serve India. Yet they go out to remote locations, to places where people desperately need help or to serve the nation in numerous other ways. They train and educate other people’s children by willingly forgoing the opportunity to start their own families. They put even their lives at risk in places like the violently Stalinist Kannur, Kerala. Indeed, I’ve even stopped reading news that reports the death of yet another Swayamsevak in that morbid State. Yet they are undeterred, and tirelessly lead such a near-ascetic life of national service propelled by the only hope that their efforts will bear fruit some day in the form of an India that had once led the world in high culture, refinement, arts, philosophy, and material riches.

It is this commitment that has earned it the goodwill and a firm place in the hearts of millions of Hindus (and thousands of non-Hindus) worldwide. A goodwill that has sustained and remained in tact over seven decades and continues to grow. It is this goodwill that unleashed the torrent of rage on social media yesterday against ANI and likeminded media charlatans. It is this goodwill that has made the RSS the largest network of its kind in the world. Name just one other voluntary organization in the world which has this awe-inspiring network of people dedicated only to serve a nation. Just one. What’s more, the kind of harassment meted out by the Dynasty to RSS at regular intervals, the kind of atrocities perpetrated against RSS workers by various Congress and Communist Governments would have broken the back of a lesser organization. The Emergency was truly the darkest period in the life of the RSS. An organization with even 1/10th of the RSS in terms of size, network, and influence in any other country would’ve reacted very differently. Yet how did the RSS respond? Its then Sarasanghachalak instructed the karyakartas to forgive Indira Gandhi and the Congress party because “after all, they are one of our own. They are fellow Indians.”

And yet, what kind of sick minds find humour in vulgar descriptions of the effects of wearing "khaki shorts? The same Newslaundry that chided ANI & co for motivated reportage of Mohan Bhagwat’s speech also says this:

Bhagwat – whose main sin appears to be that he wears khaki bermudas despite the effect the vision might have on unsuspecting viewers

How would the reporter feel if I wrote something similar about the panties his/her mother or sister wear? Would he/she write the same thing about his father’s bermudas or whatever other shorts? Oh! I’ll write that in all good humour, of course. But knowing this breed, they’d say “ah! I knew you’d say this kind of stuff about my mother and sister.” This kind of response is the direct outcome of shamelessness becoming the norm. But I digress.

But yet, what kind of moral and mental pollution prompts the media sleazebags to depict nuns and fathers and brothers as saints—the actual parasites on the ground who prey on unsuspecting non-Christian souls and lead to civil wars—while they portray the genuine and selfless workers who serve the nation as dreaded goons?

One answer to all these questions is just one word: fear. The media fears the RSS. Here’s a vast organization made entirely of voluntary workers intent only on serving the country that has stood its ground amidst severe adversities and which takes the most strident criticism in its stride. Here’s an organization which has sustained for more than seven decades and despite best efforts, hasn’t budged or accepted defeat much less been broken. Courts have consistently taken its side. Every effort to tarnish its reputation has failed. All these are eminently plausible reasons for someone to fear its moral strength.

But look at the record of the lives, behaviour and character of the selfsame media men and women who’ve demonized RSS both through force and fraud. There’s nothing but filth there. From putting out doctored news reports, from making crass accusations, from indulging in vulgar jokes, there’s no depths of depravity the media has plumbed where the RSS is concerned. Even if we overlook this, what’s the kind of ethics and professionalism the media has displayed? Radiagate? Openly campaigning for the Congress party? Land grabbing? Paid news? Killing stories? Calling for the “sudden removal” of Narendra Modi?  What is the wager that these guys can’t lead the lifestyle of Mohan Bhagwat for even half a day? And yet they occupy some kind of a self-righteous moral high ground and criticize the RSS and Bhagwat. What world do they live in? More importantly, what bizarre nightmare are we living in, to tolerate this all-round sickness?

Everybody has the right to criticize the RSS but such criticism must be rooted in truth, honesty, and a thorough knowledge of what it stands for. But then we have a media that’s incurably allergic to such concepts. Whatever be the ideological or intellectual failures of the RSS, they are patriots of the highest order and their record of national service is both unparalleled and unbeatable anywhere in the world. And I say this as an outsider.

No wonder the media is full of people like the likes of Old Monk Boy who can’t sleep without alcohol.

Although RSS was invited by Prime Minister Nehru to take part in the Republic Day parade of 1963.It along with several other civilian organizations took part in the parade. This event helped the RSS increase its popularity and its patriotic image.

Congress and it’s cronies want to suppress and destroy the RSS. As a result, the RSS has been falsely labeled a ‘terrorist organization’. Read the following information abstracted from Wikipedia:

Field Marshal Cariappa in his speech to RSS volunteers said “RSS is my heart’s work. My dear young men, don’t be disturbed by uncharitable comments of interested persons. Look ahead! Go ahead! The country is standing in need of your services”

Dr Zakir Hussain the former President of India once told to Milad Mehfil in Monghyar on 20 November 1949 “The allegations against RSS of violence and hatred against Muslims are wholly false. Muslims should learn the lesson of mutual love, cooperation and organization from RSS.

Noted Gandhian leader and the leader of Sarvoday movement, Jayaprakash Narayan, who earlier was a vocal opponent of RSS had the following to say about it in 1977 “RSS is a revolutionary organization. No other organization in the country comes anywhere near it. It alone has the capacity to transform society, end casteism and wipe the tears from the eyes of the poor.” He further added “I have great expectations from this revolutionary organization which has taken up the challenge of creating a new India”

If there is any organization that has suffered like hell in this nation and still continues to tread its social reforming path, it is certainly RSS. If Delhi and the north western parts of the newly partioned nation had seen a great resistance and virtually safe-guarded, it was courtesy RSS. The entire nation owes gratitude to this great deed of RSS and today’s generation in the media are totally ignorant of these facts. The organization is into its 88th year and has never ever bothered for any publicity. This behaviour is unique and can only come out from a saint like mind, that was Sri Madhav Sadashiv Golvalkar.

For those who want to know more about RSS, please read the book LOST YEARS OF THE RSS written by Sanjeev Kelkar. This book gives a thorough understanding of the organization and the author is no more an insider of RSS. The book has a foreword by Kumar Ketkar, a known Communist preacher and incidentally with a strong media background. Makes a very intersting reading. Highly recommended book for any free mind and more particularly to RSS haters.

Any how thanks to Sandeep for the daring write-up!!

What is revealing is in fact that even a day after Sagarika Ghose ( Associate Editor of CNN-IBN channel ) tweeted her apology that she had misunderstood RSS Sarsanghachalak, Mohan Bhagwat’s comments, her TV channel continued to spread the mis-information. Rajdeep Sardesai (her husband and Editor – In- Chief IBN network ran a show with an interview with Abu Azmi’s son,Farhan Azmi on Jan 8th at 9 pm where the scrolls still showed Mohanji Bhagwat as having made the same comments.

Therefore it seems that while they apologize on twitter probably to save their face on the internet, they run the TV program “India @ 9 ” and carry on the same lies. How low can they fall ?

Noticing the change in the general attitudes of the people, which in turn quantitatively measured by the crime, me thinking that this is the first phase of the society setting into anarchy or say low general disorder.
While you are engaging self for higher peaceful existence you cannot discount the trends in general society which is moving more towards aggressiveness and apathy. It may uproot and make you non existant if you do not consider the change that is happening.

As our Kaanchi Mahaperiyavar points out birthday celebrations & partying are not indigenous Hindu cultural traditions. Our lives have always been inextricably intertwined with our Temples , our Gods Sri.Rama & Krishna. Thus celebrations meant only SriRama Navami , Gokulashtami . Ssivarathri , Navarathri and so forth.

Each & every individual throwing a party in the name of birthdays & such celebrations create lot of strife among the people. Making the allegedly poor dangerously avaricious even murderous.

As a working woman dependence on maids becomes a necessity. These allegedly poor maids & cooks are extremely crafty creatures. They breed & produce lots of children. And forever importune us asking for extra FREE cash , FREE clothes , chocolate boxes etc etc as they send their children to upscale convents & schools. Often they connive with anti socials engineering burglaries & murders too. And escape unpunished. There are lots of human rights bleeding hearts brigade to defend such people citing “poverty” as the reason.

This very dependence on maids , babysitters , cooks can be uprooted if women make prudent choices. When one truly takes up management of households a lot of extravagant expenditures come to an end. One can simplify cooking & extend the same pruning to other areas also. One need not exist on leftovers languishing in freezers which only builds up plaque in one’s brain.

With no socializing & partying unwashed vessels do not pile up in sinks. The very itch to purchase too many clothes & accessories disappears. Vapid useless talks are done away with. Simple living & high thinking crystallize on their own. We need not necessarily wait for old age & retirement to bring about such salutary effect. Every individual can be a potential Nachiketas. We stand to benefit if we start right from childhood. After hitting the forties unlearning all the garbage gathered in our psyches & accessing WISDOM is extremely difficult as cradle habits persist to the grave.

It is ONLY through such steps taken one understands the meaning of SILENCE & PEACE extolled rapturously by Sri.Thayumana Svamigal & Arunagirinathar.

Today detailed pravachans by competent Aacharyas like Swami Omkarananda ( Theni Chidbavananda Ashram) Swami Paramarthananda , Swamy Dayananda , Sri.Nochur Venkatraman on Upanishads , Ramayanam , Bhagavd Geetha , Srimad Bhagavatham, Yoga Vasishtam etc are all available on CDs & DVDs. Excellent books with commentaries are also available. Even 24 hours would not suffice to internalise them all. One could go on listening to them as law of diminishing returns becomes totally inoperative. And focus on household work like cooking , cleaning etc also in tandem. Food cooked thus by internal chanting & remembrance of Lord Sri.Ram/ Durga/Ssiva/Krishna/Lakshmi/Kali is highly potent prasad as food does impact one’s intellect & mental constitution.

Put an end to watching various news channels, soaps & movies. Those are but toxic puerile junk ingested through various sense organs.

Trust me , this is THE BEST meditation. One need not pay money to any NGO run by various charlatans , sit in any posture doing hyperventilation calling it seva. And neglect one’s household.

Potent Hymns like Thiruppugazh , Thiruvachakam , Thevaram , Lalitha Sahasranamam , Soundhrya Lahari , Vishnu Sahasranamam truly keep us away from dangerous mercenaries called allopaths, psychiatrists etc. They also contribute in no small measure to one’s command over word power as additional bonus. When the late Tamil poet Kannadasan was extolled for his prolific , variegated & inspiring output of impromptu compositions he replied unabashedly ( in atheism promoting Tamil Nadu by Dravidian parties):-

“I owe everything to my learning of ‘Naalayira Divya Prabandham”.

(” The Divya Prabandham is the collective corpus of the passionate hymns of the Aazhvaar mystics….The Divya Prabandham is in the form of adoration of the deities of 108 temples (divya desams) situated in different parts of the country, and employs every form of poetics (aNi) and prosody (chandam) available in Tamil”.)

  18. January 10, 2013 at 12:35 PM

Sri.Mohan Bhagwat is quite right in his observations. A lot more of sexual abuses including verbal take place in workplaces & while commuting back & forth. No one “reports” as the victims would end up facing more virulent vindictiveness from the same people. Words like “empowerment” “liberated woman” are highly misleading. Every woman should have the courage to admit ground realities & take decisions. I was forced to work for several years against my will after the sudden death of my father. What started as temporary became permanent as so called family members could not care less. They were only interested in the salary brought home. I was being used by the parasites called relatives.

My misery continued with no respite even after marriage. My child was also forcefully snatched from me & dumped in various creches . My earnings were frittered away on cruel maids & shoddy creches. Irony being I had always wanted to be a good wife & mother. Certainly not a working woman. After office hours one is left with very little stamina to focus on nutritious cooking & judicious household management. All of it gets outsourced. What I actually got in return were poor health , enormous resentment & guilt. Where I wanted to read Srimad Bhagavatham while pregnant , I was working in an office going through nothing but misery. In my absence the caretakers tortured my child.

Empowerment comes from knowing oneself. And our Spiritual Scriptures like Sri.Aadi Shankara’s Viveka Chudamani , Bhaja Govindham , Astavakra Samhitha , Upanishads etc etc ALONE can truly empower an individual.

As a housewife a woman is spared the trauma of facing the knavish world outside. Household management including cooking are certainly not infra dig. Anyone who is fortunate enough to access Hindus Spiritual Scriptures would have absolutely no craving for socializing , partying & approval seeking from the society including watching silly programmes on television. True security & self esteem come only then.

As a working woman one ends up dancing to the tune of several colleagues & managing some corporate entity. Where is the question of being “liberated / modern” ?

Well, I have to vent my anger on the BJP now:

Had the BJP ruled states done to the English dailies what Mamta did in WB, atleast some jokers like Indian Express would have gone bankrupt by now. On the contrary, they dole out govt ad money to these dailies, like they did for India Shining campaign.

Did anyone notice that there is a section of the BJP that is normally low-key but takes over reins once the BJP gets into power? They also happen to be most friendly with the pSecular media.

(Disclaimer: I am no Mamta fan. And as is obvious from the above, I long to see the demise of as many English dailies as possible).

Great article as usual Sandeep. But a bit of overreaction on the bermudas point methinks.

That itself is in all probability a dig at the mass circulation of pictures of Bhagwat and Gadkari in shorts on social media sites, bearing the caption (not exact, but in effect) “RSS believe that Western values like wearing short clothes have a negative impact on Indian society”.

To me, the comment in the newslaundry article is just questioning the ridiculousness of the common “khaki chaddi” pejorative used by many for the RSS. As such, the newslaundry article is praiseworthy and even if you somehow find tat single comment offensive, it is not worth bringing parents’ panties into the argument, at least as far as newslaundry is concerned.

Good detailing of the various issues involved. Sandeepji should be congratulated.

The various apologies that are offered to Mohanji Bhagwat are actually an apology for an apology. They are insincere in nature, and the wording is such that they can be only called Mohammed Ghori apologies. As some will know Mohammed Ghori asked forgiveness of Prithviraj Chavan, when the latter defeated him in battle. In true Hindu tradition, Prithviraj allowed Ghori to go back. But Ghori’s apology was only to live another day. And when he defeated Prithviraj, the fact that the latter had allowed him to live did not even make him consider to reciprocate. After all, the apology was an insincere one, and a way to try and wiggle out of a situation.

@mats When did RSS play the divisive politics?Anyhow I cannot understand how can anyone working to unite 80% of people be called divisive.Even feminists can only reach 50% at best. Most consensus is considered such at 60% or less.

Only a person who does not understand ‘Hinduism’ from a personal standpoint can think of RSS as a violent organization. Its just not in its DNA.

  33. mats
    January 8, 2013 at 9:55 AM

SP, I don’t believe that those who criticize the divisive politics of the RSS are Hindu-haters and those who support the RSS are Hindu-lovers.

It is typical of religious politics that its ‘ideologues’ are hypocrites and cowards who hope to outsource the all too evident violence they advocate from behind the key-board or pen, to the lumpen offshoots of their ‘organization’. The language of discourse, bristling with indignation, often against imagined slights, is a corruption of human expression.

The Islamist in Pakistan truly believes he is an unadulterated patriot of the first order, and we have mirror images.

Extremely truthful and convincing article by Sandeep. He has neutralised the venom of the twisted news spread by Media about RSS to a great extent. The rate at which the venom is being spit by wrong perception of an organisation rooted in public selfless service, I fear, will lead no where even near to the game plans of so called secularists and powerful. It will lead to civil war one day or the other.Always hearing the argument that we are in 21st century and so we must change totally. What does it mean? Change your values, ignore your timeless, verified and verifiable scriptural guidelines for a harmonised living? Even the the handling of media debates is done assuming a moral high ground by media instead of exploring and understanding various view points dispassionately and leaving any judgemental openion on the viewers. They should follow up the progress and pitfalls of any Govt , social action dispassionately. They become a party to a debate in stead of a moderator and facilitator to explore options so that every one can be benefitted by the debate. On social issues only non political members should be invited. What happens today is the spread of competitive politics and who can shout and speak fluent english and refer to past about one party or the other. The essence of debate should be current, in mindful presence without any prejudice of past or future. Today present is being neglected by all political leaders keeping only future focus in their mind to plan to remain in power. We are seeing on a daily basis the destruction of lives and property in communist and talibanised society all over the world. Our only one problem facing the Nation is poverty and good governance which will take care of education, industrial development, law and order, roads electricity etc. Most of the NGOs, Media, Govts are all self serving and therefore this chaos, confusion and misrepresentation again to sustain selfish ends and not any public good. If we do not learn ,civil war will be the only option to recycle the population and perhaps start on clean convass the process of fresh governance as a natural phenomenon. Be aware ! Think by delving within calmly and work whether in media, Govt or public/ private space honestly depending on scriptural values of all religions.

Never an article was written with such candour and fearlessness.

@mats: Note the word “record” in Sandeep’s statement you quote. The statement of recorded facts is not opinion. Your “opinion”, on the other hand, does not even qualify as that. It is hate-filled, narrow-minded anti-Hindu bigtory plain and simple. During partition RSS stood against the vivisection of India on religious grounds and secularist Congis were the ones who acquiesced to carving an Islamic state out of India. Muslims and their secularist hand-maidens were the ones who played “divisive religious politics”, not RSS. Their divisive religious politics was attended by the most brutal violence on a mass scale starting with Direct Action Day. It was the RSS that fought back against this violence, not the impotent Bapu, nor the Hindu-hating Chacha of the nation. Even regarding Kashmir, Muslims play “divisive religious politics” and indulge in the most brutal bloodbath on Indian. The Babri Masjid, like Somnath was nothing except the symbol of senseless violence in the service of “divisive religious politics”. Muslims were given the chance to correct a historical wrong and prove that hindu-muslim bhai-bhai was not just an empty slogan and commence a new chapter in the relations of the two communities. But the response from them, egged on by you secularists, was only more “divisive religious politics” backed by violence. The only opinion of Sandeep’s I am tempted to employ in your case is that of “a whore with none of the ethics of a whore”. Go peddle your patriotism certificates elsewhere.

No other organisations is as patriotic As RSS. A Muslim organisations thinks only about Muslims, Mohammed and Macca. Christian charities are trying to harvest souls (not my word, Mat). The whores will see the whole world with their whore coloured glasses. the only wish I have is RSS to be more vocal and aggressive then only the MFs and FFs MSM will come out of their WHOREHOOD.

Hats off Sandeep, a truly worthy Indian. And Pranam to RSS organisation. May it flourish day and night.

“…the RSS, they are patriots of the highest order and their record of national service is both unparalleled and unbeatable anywhere in the world.” That’s just an opinion.

Here’s another opinion: If the RSS were really patriotic they would not be playing divisive religious politics with proclivities towards violence, violence which mostly they do through their crude off-shoots and proxies (speak of cowardice!), just like other religio-political outfits holding similar extreme views! Normally the religious fanatic who use their pen and the key-board to advocate religion-based violence is a coward and a hypocrite, not unlike the guy who wants the fish but will not wet his hand! Street level violence is hoped to be outsourced to the lumpen. Where is patriotism in this?

Inspired article and one that makes the heart weep at the rapacious injustice meted out to the RSS by the traitorous media. Unfortunately the RSS itself seems to have deliberately renounced any kind of effective public relations. The media’s perverted distortions are the result of this silence on the part of the Sangha. Also, the “they are all our own… fellow Indians” sentiment has resulted in the most hostile forces and people staying in power and destroying the country even more. I shudder to think what would have happened had Sri Krishna uttered this same nonsense instead of a weak-minded Arjuna on the battlefield of Kurukshetra.
